120 Days of Quality RV’ing

Written By: John Haley

In my first blog I mentioned that when asked if I was familiar with the Pleasure Way brand by my salesperson, I said that I was not. This could be attributed to having not explored the Class B van world in my RV life to that point, having graduated from my first travel trailer to a Class A diesel pusher.

But what did strike me was when my salesperson said that the 2019 PW Plateau XLTD he showed me in the service bay had just been traded-in by a person looking to buy a 2023 PW that had just been traded-in by another person who purchased a new 2025 PW. A literal domino-effect of owner commitment and loyalty to the Pleasure Way product could not have been more clearly illustrated to me. The first impression from the outside was that there was no way I could have enough space, that making the move from a 35 foot, 4 slide-out diesel pusher to a 22 foot 9 inch Class B RV would be impossible. Then I opened the door, entered the Plateau, and everything changed.

“Created, not Manufactured” is a mission statement that appears in an informative section of the Pleasure-Way ‘How We Build Our Motorhome’ website. Loyalty is once again proven by the long tenure of the many employees who have worked at the company for decades building these exceptional homes on wheels. I was particularly impressed by the fact that the majority of the components used in a given motorhome that are not even visible to the owner are painted and matched to the exterior components that are in plain view. This just embodies a very high commitment to a concept I would like to cover in this blog….

Quality…

It’s a word that is thrown about in many marketing ways, to say something about the dedication of a company toward building something in the best way possible, something that is superior, something that will stand the test of time. There are tangible and intangible aspects of quality that have been debated in many ways, but to my way of thinking, quality is something that you know and feel when you see and experience it. After driving my Plateau around the country for the past 4 months, I can say that this is the highest quality RV I have ever owned and operated.

It starts with the little things: how the shower is shaped to maximize space yet allow fuller movement, the use of the table as a foundational element of the bed make-up, having the outside panel for water/electricity being raised to avoid having to crouching to the ground, a handy propane outlet for a propane grill. It moves up in importance to the Spyder Panel controls that combine key operating systems (AC, Furnace, Lights, Generator and more) on a single screen (one located by the front door, another by the TV), the exterior door handle illuminating in parallel to the outside light that will lead you to your front door from the darkness. The thermal efficiency of my RV is also impressive. Coming from an RV with 4 slide-outs, I welcome a space where there are no drafty winds coming into the motorhome.

Finally, the driving experience of my Plateau has been truly a revelation. The agility, the power of the turbo Sprinter engine and how easily it tows my Honda CRV has greatly enhanced my RV driving experience. In driving back across the country to my home in Pennsylvania, I was able to drive for longer periods each day and felt less beat-up than I did after a day with my old diesel pusher.

This will no doubt lead to more trips, an increase in weekend ‘spur of the moment’ excursions and improve the overall quality of my RV life.
