Top 10 Reasons I Love My 2020 Pleasure-Way XLTS

Written By: Chuck Hayden

#10 – Smooth Ride

My XLTS is built on a Mercedes chassis, and it not only drives great, it handles great too. I’ve driven in some crazy crosswinds, and the rig tracks beautifully. It has a decent-sized profile, but it handles the wind like a car.

Last year, just south of Oklahoma City, a severe wind warning came across my phone—80+ mph gusts for the entire area. I was traveling south when the winds hit me broadside. There was no immediate exit, so I carefully continued to the next one. When I turned east, the wind was finally at my back. About 20 minutes later, I arrived at the property where I was staying for the night.

The owner told me that in his 60 years living there, these were the worst sustained winds he’d ever experienced outside of a tornado. He was stunned that I kept driving.

I just smiled and said, “I have a Pleasure-Way — it wasn’t a problem.”

#9 – Well Insulated

I try to chase 70 degrees around North America, but in the past four years I’ve found myself in some extreme temperatures. My rig is almost always comfortable inside.

Between the insulation, tinted windows, and shades, a lot of the sun’s heat stays out. By opening the windows and turning on the exhaust fan, I can usually keep the interior temperature reasonable.

I don’t like running the air conditioner often, but when needed, it does a great job.

The same goes for cold weather. The insulation works beautifully, and I stay comfortable inside at night.

#8 – Tons of Storage

I’m a full-timer without a home base, so everything comes with me. The exterior storage handles all my necessary equipment, tools, and gear. I also have a StowAway storage box on the back that came with the rig. While not essential, it’s perfect for hoses, electrical cables, and chairs.

Inside, storage is abundant as well. Plenty of room for clothes, food, and supplies. I even have one upper cabinet that’s still empty.

I guess I need to buy more stuff.

#7 – Spyder Controls

I have two control panels — one near the side door and one next to the bed. These are fantastic. From turning lights on and dimming them, to starting the generator, to checking water and propane levels, everything is simple and intuitive.

They give me all the information I need to comfortably live in my rig.

#6 – Bed/Couch Combo

Originally, I wanted a full-time bed. I didn’t want to convert a couch every night or make up the bed before going to sleep.

I’m glad I changed my mind.

I love the bed/couch combo. The bed is very comfortable, and switching modes is as easy as pushing a button on the control panel. I found a great set of sheets online that stay in place in either mode, which makes the transition effortless.

When I visit friends or family, they often offer me their guest room. I always decline. My XLTS is super comfortable — and it’s my home.

#5 – Onboard Generator

I don’t use it often, but the generator is a great backup. On cloudy days when solar doesn’t quite top off my batteries, it gives me peace of mind.

If I need to run the air conditioner, I simply touch a button on the Spyder panel and the generator powers up. It’s reassuring to know I have backup power whenever I need it.

#4 – Awning-Style Windows

The windows on my XLTS are fantastic. Because they’re awning-style, I can keep them open even when it’s raining. That means great airflow in any weather.

Many of my nomad friends have sliding windows and have to close everything up when it rains. Mine stay open, allowing cross-ventilation that helps regulate the inside temperature and adds to the overall comfort.

#3 – Dry Bath

It’s so nice to have a true dry bath with a decent-sized shower onboard. I don’t have to worry about soaking the entire bathroom every time I shower.

Many people are surprised that a rig this size has a dry bath. Once I show it to them, they’re impressed. The design makes the most of every inch of space, and fitting a real shower into the XLTS is just brilliant.

#2 – Superior Build & Customer Support

I’ve put nearly 90,000 miles on my rig, including plenty of rough roads and off-road travel. The build quality is exceptional. Everything feels solid and built to last.

Many RV manufacturers cut corners and push units out with known issues. Not Pleasure-Way. They use quality materials and skilled installers to ensure every rig is built for the long haul.

On the two occasions I contacted customer support for minor issues, the team was professional and incredibly helpful. They walked me through solutions so I could fix things myself, saving me time and money.

The Pleasure-Way team is extraordinary, and I’m proud to be part of the family.
